Global warming and climate change became main issues in the last few years. Many medias try to inform public about global warming and others environmental problems. Since Al Gore’s video is published in world cinema, people start to worry about their environment. What is happen with our earth?

Environmental problems in Indonesia accelerated with the increasing population and industrialization. Excessive consumption and poverty continue to put enormous pressure on the environment. People in affluent societies are conditioned to want more and more and they often think of such wants as vital needs. Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like (Will Smith).

Urbanization is one of major cause in environmental probems. People are pulled towards urban areas because city is more available for jobs, food, housing, education, health care, freedom from religious, racial, political conflicts, and entertainment. Another reason people who towards urban areas because poverty, lack of land to grow food, declining agricultural jobs, famine, war. The impacts of urbanization make earth unsustainable for future. Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of enoughness said nature is compassionate and provides enough for the needs of all, but not for the greed of even one.

How efforts are made to solve these problems in national arena and the major sustainability challenges in industry and methods to facilitate a move in the right direction. The focus of sustainable development is how to connect economic, social, and environmental that the fulfilling of the needs today’s world shall be done without compromising the future needs.

What is needed to put sustainable development into practice? We need to know what to do/how to choose, the key for solve that is education. We need it to make positive visions about environment to avoid mental traps that lead to denial and inaction. Leadership commitment is the power to change/make choices for our future. Leader who respect earth and life in all its diversity, care for life with understanding, love and compassion, and secure earth’s bounty and beauty for present and future generations.
